The current vacancy is with the Cyber and Digital Citizens’ Security Unit, Space, Security and Migration Directorate, located in Ispra, Italy. The mission of the Unit is to strengthen trust and security of the European Citizen in a sustainable and inclusive ICT-based European society by scientific research on how emerging Information and Communication Technologies will impact the security and privacy of citizens’ daily life. The unit works on risk mitigation, cyber security, cybercrime, data protection, privacy and on the associated legal and regulatory frameworks.

WE PROPOSE:

A Contractual Agent position FG IV in Ispra, Italy. The successful candidate will contribute to the activities of the Cyber and Digital Citizens’ Security Unit to support the implementation of the European Cybersecurity Strategy and to strengthen the European cybersecurity foresight capabilities.

He/she will conduct scientific studies and experimental activities in the area of cybersecurity, privacy and digital identities focusing on new emerging technologies, smart and mobile digital environments and distributed digital services.

The successful candidate will carry out of the following tasks:

  • Design and develop research projects, experiments and studies in the mentioned research domains
  • Analyse new emerging technologies to identify cybersecurity weaknesses and standardisation needs
  • Evaluate state-of-the-art and conduct foresight analysis to provide anticipatory advices to policymakers
  • Develop cybersecurity risk assessment processes, and conduct cybersecurity risk assessment analysis of critical infrastructures
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Unit research laboratories
  • Prepare scientific papers and technical reports.

WE LOOK FOR:

The successful candidate shall have a PhD degree – or a minimum of 5 years of full-time research experience after the first University degree giving access to doctoral (PhD) studies in the field of: Information and Communication Technologies, Computer Science, Software/network Engineering or equivalent.

Essential Skills and requirements:

  • Ability to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment
  • English language, at least C1 level both oral and written
  • Ability to learn new technologies and skills rapidly
  • Capacity to design and develop scientific projects autonomously
  • Cybersecurity knowledge or experience
  • Knowledge of network protocols
  • Relevant publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.

The following knowledge or experience are an asset:

  • Knowledge of cryptographic protocols and Public Key Infrastructure
  • Familiarity with IoT and Mobile device ecosystems
  • Software engineering skills
  • Knowledge of blockchain technologies
  • Knowledge of digital identity and authentication paradigms.

INDICATIVE CONTRACT’S DURATION:

36 months initial contract with possible renewals up to maximum 6 years.
